Former Osgoode Postmaster Dies

Postmaster at Osgoode for a number of years, before engaging in farming, Hugh Cleland died in hospital on Saturday, following a short illness. He was 72.

The son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Cleland he was born and educated at Osgoode and resided there all his life. He married Gertrude Daley in Gloucester 45 years ago. Mr. Cleland attended St. John’s Church, Osgoode, and was a member of the League of the Sacred Heart, and the Holy Name Society.

Besides his wife he is survived by two sons, Harold and Walter Cleland, both of Osgoode; six daughters, Rev. Sister Mary Anselm, with the Congregation of St. Joseph. Barry’s Bay, Rev. Slater Mary Loretto, with the Congregation of St. Joseph, Calabogie, Miss Gertrude Cleland, with the Department of Mines and Resources, Miss Irene Cleland, with the R.C.A.F. records office. Mrs. Lawrence Millar, and Mrs. Patrick Collins, all of Ottawa; and one sister, Mrs. Thomas Herbert, Detroit.

The body is at his residence, from where the funeral will be held on Tuesday, at 9.30 a.m. to St. John's Church, Osgoode, for solemn requiem mass at 10 o’clock. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
