John Devereaux Dies After Brief Illness

Friday, August 20, 1943

An Osgoode farmer for many years, John Devereaux died in hospital this morning after a short illness.

Born in Osgoode in 1879, he was the son of the late Edward Devereaux and Bridget O'Shea. He attended St. John’s Church in Osgoode and belonged to the League of the Sacred Heart and the Holy Name Society.

He is survived by his wife, the former Mary Ellen Toal; a son, Francis, of Osgoode; two brothers, Edward, of Vancouver, and Thomas, of Portage la Prairie; four sisters, Rev. Sister St. Bernard, of the Grey Sisters of the Sacred Heart, Jackson House. N.Y. Miss Mary Devereaux, of Ottawa, Mrs. E. Lyng (Margaret), of Merrickville, and Mrs. Catherine O’Connell, of Chesterville.

The body is resting at the McEvoy funeral parlors. Funeral arrangements will be announced later.
