Father Leo Hermans

Fr. Leo Hermans
Pastor:
1971 to 1976

Father Leo Hermans arrived in Canada early in 1949. In the S.CJ. Seminary he taught French, Latin and German, and he was prefect of discipline. In 1955 he became superior, and six years later became the first provincial superior.

Father Hermans was greatly appreciated for his relaxed, warm and personal character. He loved practical jokes. In 1971 a dream of his life was realized: he became a simple parish priest of Osgoode and Manotick. His sermons were thoughtful and often profound, as he did a lot of serious reading. Preparing a fondue for his Ottawa confreres that was to take place the next day, he unexpectedly suffered a fatal heart attack in an Ottawa shopping cen- tre, December 31,1970.
