Many friends gathered with relatives to pay final tribute to Mrs. Margaret La Plante who died on Friday at her funeral Monday morning. The cortege left the residence, 242 Bronson avenue, and proceeded to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church for solemn requiem high mass at 9 a.m. Mass was chanted by Rev. John O’Neill, assisted by Rev. A. Gratton as deacon, and Rev. E. Boyle as subdeacon. In the sanctuary were Rev. Fathers W. Moore and F. Corkery. Burial took place in St. Brigid’s cemetery, River road, Osgoode. Rev. E. Maloney officiated at the graveside service. Numerous floral and spiritual offerings were received.

The death of Mrs. Margaret LaPlante, widow of Basil LaPlante, occurred today at her residence, 242 Bronson avenue, in her 84th year.

She was born and educated in Osgoode, Ont., daughter of the late Patrick Kelly and Catherine McEvoy. Several years ago she came to live in Ottawa. A devout member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish, she also belonged to the Tabernacle Society, League of the Sacred Heart, and the Third Order of St. Dominic.

Left to mourn her loss are three sons, Patrick, Ottawa; Edward, Barrie. Ont., and Al, Rouyn. Que.; two daughters, Mrs. Michael Ahern, Clayburg, N.Y., and Cecelia, at home; two brothers, James and Joseph, Ottawa, and two sisters, Sister Mary of St. Columbkille, of the Holy Cross Convent, Montreal, and Mrs. Martin Reardon, Osgoode, Ont.

The body is resting at the above address, from where the funeral will be held on Monday* Oct. 18, at 8.40 a.m. to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church for solemn requiem high mass at 9 o’clock. Burial will take place in St. Brigid’s cemetery, River road.

Resting at the parlors of McEvoy Bros., 235 Kent St. comer of Nepean. Funeral Sunday, 12th Inst., at 2 p.m., to St. John's Church, Osgoode, for libera service at 3 o’clock. Burial at the pariah cemetery. Requiem high mass will be chanted for the repose of his soul at St. Thomas Acquinas Church. Billings’ Bridge, Monday morning at 9 o'clock.

Funeral Takes Place Of John J. Herbert

The funeral of John J. Herbert, lifelong resident of Osgoode,who died at his home on Saturday, was largely attended this morning. Mr. Herbert was 70 years of age, and had been ill only a month.

The cortege moved from his residence to St. John’s Church, Osgoode, where Rev. E. A. Maloney chanted requiem high mask at 8.15. Rev. Frank Corkery was in the sanctuary, and also said the prayers in the parish cemetery, assisted by Father Maloney.

Pallbearers were J. Doyle, A. Doyle, J. McEvoy, H. Clelland, J. Blanchfield and T. Daley.

Chief mourners were four sons, Al, Stephen and Ambrose, of Osgoode, and Joseph, of Ottawa; two daughters, Helen and Anna, of Ottawa, and three brothers, Michael, of Osgoode, and Richard and Simon, of Ottawa.

There were a number of floral and spiritual offerings.

Largely attended, the funeral was held this morning of John Devereaux, Osgoode farmer, who died Friday in his 65th year.

The cortege left the parlors of McEvoy Brothers at 9.00, proceeding to St. John's Church, Osgoode, for requiem high mass at 10 o’clock. The body was met at the door by Rev. E. Maloney, and the service was chanted by Rev. E. O'Sullivan, O.S.M. In the sanctuary were Rev. F. Corkery and Rev. Father Kerney, of Chesterville. Burial was made in the parish cemetery, with Father Maloney saying the last prayers.

The pallbearers were John Richard, of Blanchfield, Michael Herbert, Thomas O’Rourke, Gus McEvoy, John McEvoy and Onesime Foubert.

He is survived by his wife, the former Mary Ellen Toal; a son, Francis, of Osgoode; two brothers, Edward, of Vancouver, and Thomas, of Portage la Prairie; four sisters, Rev. Sister St. Bernard, of the Grey Sisters of the Sacred Heart, Jackson Heights, N.Y., Miss Mary Devereaux, of Ottawa, Mrs. E. Lyng (Margaret), of Merrickville, and Mrs. Catherine O'Connell, of Chesterville.

Among the numerous floral and spiritual offerings were those from the Sisters of Providence, Chesterville, and the Grey Sisters of the Sacred Heart.

John J. Herbert Dies at Osgoode

A lifelong resident of Osgoode, John Joseph Herbert, died this morning at his heme after a month’s illness.

Born 79 years ago, he was the son of the late Michael Herbert and Ellen Nash. In 1999 he married the former Annie Shields, who predeceased him by 20 years. He attended St. John’s Church, where he was active in the League of the Secred Heart the Holy Name Society and the Catholic Order of Foresters. He was a farmer.

He is survived by four sons, Al, Stephen and Ambrose, of Osgoode, and Joseph, of Ottawa; two daughters, Helen and Anna, of Ottawa, and three brothers, Michael, of Osgoode, and Richard and Simon, of Ottawa.

The funeral will be held from his late residence Monday morning at eight to St. John's Church for requiem high mass at 8.10. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

John Devereaux Dies After Brief Illness

An Osgoode farmer for many years, John Devereaux died in hospital this morning after a short illness.

Born in Osgoode in 1879, he was the son of the late Edward Devereaux and Bridget O'Shea. He attended St. John’s Church in Osgoode and belonged to the League of the Sacred Heart and the Holy Name Society.

He is survived by his wife, the former Mary Ellen Toal; a son, Francis, of Osgoode; two brothers, Edward, of Vancouver, and Thomas, of Portage la Prairie; four sisters, Rev. Sister St. Bernard, of the Grey Sisters of the Sacred Heart, Jackson House. N.Y. Miss Mary Devereaux, of Ottawa, Mrs. E. Lyng (Margaret), of Merrickville, and Mrs. Catherine O’Connell, of Chesterville.

The body is resting at the McEvoy funeral parlors. Funeral arrangements will be announced later.

Pioneer of Osgoode, Peter Daley, Buried

OSGOODE, Ont., May 17. — In the cemetery of his native parish, the body of Peter Daley, member of a respected pioneer family of Osgoode, was laid to rest after solemn requiem mass chanted in St. John's Church. The celebrant was the pastor, Rev. Ernest Maloney.

The service was attended by friends and neighbors from the district where Mr. Daley was held in the highest regard for his many sterling qualities. Although of a quiet, almost retiring nature, his kindness had endeared him to persons scattered over a wide area.

Peter Daley was a son of the late John Daley and his wife, Ellen O'Connor, also a member of an old Carleton family. He was predeceased by three sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth (Bessie) Calvin, of Chicago; Misses Kate and Ellie Daley. A sister, Mrs. Mary Galvin, of Chicago, and a number of nephews and nieces, survive.

Mr. Daley died in Ottawa during Holy Week and his body rested for a time in the vault at Notre Dame Cemetery before being brought to Osgoode for burial.

William Kelly Pioneer Osgoode Resident Dies

A pioneer resident of Osgoode, William Kelly died on Monday at his residence on the River Road, in his 82nd year following an illness of several months.

Mr. Kelly was born at Osgoode and farmed there until his illness last December. He was the son of the late Patrick Kelly and his Wife, the late Margaret McEvoy. His wife, the former Margaret Reardon, predeceased him in 1917. Mr. Kelly was a devout parishioner of St. Brigid’s Church, the River Road, and was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters.

Surviving are five sons, Austin, at home; Andrew, Lambert, Edwin and Martin, all of Ottawa; three daughters, Clara, at home, Mabel, South Gloucester, and Mrs. Patrick Shields, Osgoode; two brothers, James and Joseph, Ottawa; three sisters, Rev. Sister St. Columbkille, Montreal; Mrs. B. Laplant, Ottawa; Mrs. Martin Reardon, Osgoode. Rev. Sister St. Augustine is a niece and Rev. Father Gerald Kelly, is a nephew.

The body is resting at the late residence, the River Road, from where the funeral will be held on Wednesday at 9.45 a.m. to St. Brigid’s Church for requiem high mass at ten o’clock. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.

Mrs. John Kelly Dies Suddenly at Osgoode

A lifelong resident of Osgoode and one of the district’s best known figures, Mrs. Theresa Florence Kelly died suddenly Saturday as a result of a heart attack at her home on the River Road, Osgoode.
Mrs. Kelly was the former Theresa Florence Daly, daughter of one of Osgoode district’s oldest families. Her father was the late Thomas Daley, a native of Osgoode, and her mother, the late Mary McGee, born in South Gloucester.

Active in Church Work.

She was a devout Roman Catholic and a parishioner of St. Bridget’s Church, River Road. Throughout her life she took a leading part in the affairs of the church organizations as well as in charitable activities. She was a member of the Catholic Women's League, the League of the Sacred Heart and St. Joseph’s Union. She also was a member of the Red Cross Society and did valuable work in its interests.
Following her death, which came as a shock to her wide circle of friends, Dr. J. S. Nelson, coroner was called. He pronounced death due to natural causes and said no inquest would be held.
Mrs. Kelly was born at Osgoode and educated there. Her marriage to the late John Kelly took place in South Gloucester and they afterwards established a farm at Osgoode. Mr. Kelly died 14 years ago.

Leaves 7 Sons, 3 Daughters

Left to mourn the death of Mrs. Kelly are seven sons, Arthur, Ambrose, Fred and James, all of Osgoode; Harry, of Cornwall Dominic, supervisor of manual training for Ottawa Separate Schools, and Vincent Kelly, principal of St. Patrick’s School, Ottawa; three daughters, Mrs. W. J. McRae, of Lochiel; Mrs. E. Dewan, of Ottawa, and Mrs. J. Curtin, of Britannia Bay; two brothers, James and Michael Daley, of Osgoode, and two sisters, Mrs. Thomas Grant, of Ottawa, and Mrs. Hugh Cleland, of Osgoode.
There are 44 grandchildren surviving. Nine nieces are members of religious orders. Two nephews are priests, Major the Rev. Michael Daley, of Regina, Sask., and Rev. Gerald Kelly, O.M.I., of the Holy Rosary Scholasticate. The late Rev. Aelred Daley, of St. Brigid’s parish, Ottawa, was a nephew.
Five grandchildren are in the armed forces at present, three of them serving overseas. Rev. Sister St: Columbkille, of the Holy Cross Convent, Montreal, is a sister-in-law.
The funeral is being held this morning from the home of her son, Dominic Kelly, River road, Osgoode, to St. Bridget’s church for requiem high mass at 9.90 o’clock. Interment will take place in the parish cemetery.
